Julia Freeland, 96, of Charlotte passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, peacefully in her sleep.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Plantation Estates, 733 Plantation Estates Drive, Matthews. Interment will be private.
She was born May 18, 1917, in Hyattsville, Maryland, to the late Melvin and Opal Snellings Moss.
Julia was a long-time member of Sardis Presbyterian Church, where she taught kindergarten for over 20 years. She was outgoing, had a love for life, her family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing, loved the outdoors and could not wait to go camping every chance she got.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest P. Freeland; son Ernest P. Freeland II; brothers James Moss and Melvin Moss; sister Mary Gettys; and son-in-law Richard Hardesty.
Julia is survived by son Robert Freeland and special friend Judy Krahmer of Charlotte; daughter Judith Hardesty of Southport; son Joseph Freeland and wife Elaine of Locust Grove, Virginia; grandchildren Kelley Hardesty, Rudd Hardesty, Robert Freeland II, Christy Shivel, Joseph Freeland II, Riley Freeland and Ernest Freeland III; and 12 great-grandchildren.
