Brunswick County Public Utilities is holding a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday August 24, 2021, in the Brunswick
County Board of Commissioners Chambers, 30 Government
Center Drive, NE, Bolivia, NC to present information to the
public regarding the proposed Mulberry Branch Water Reclamation Facility.
The proposed Mulberry Branch Water Reclamation Facility is
a regional wastewater treatment and disposal project rated at
0.75 million gallons per day. With the addition of Southport
as a participant in the regional wastewater system, this project is needed to increase wastewater treatment capacity. The
facility will be located on the same property as the existing
Shallotte WWRF. New headworks, an influent pump station,
and an equalization tank will be located between the existing
upper and lower lagoons. The new Mulberry Water Reclamation Facility will be constructed approximately 0.25 miles
northwest of the existing control building. Treated water will
be discharged into high-rate infiltration basins located approximately 1 mile north of the existing control building.
The project will be funded by the City of Southport and will
utilize a Clean Water State Revolving Loan in the amount of
$29.8 million dollars.
Prior to the meeting, the engineering report and environmental information document for this project may be reviewed between 9 am and 4:30 pm (M-F) at Southport City Hall, 1029
North Howe Street, Southport, NC and at Brunswick County
Public Utilities, 250 Grey Water Road, NE, Supply, NC. Those
