Carolyn Jean Flynn, 75, of St. James, formerly of Chester, New Jersey, passed away on June 12, 2019.

Carolyn was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on December 19, 1943, a daughter of the late Carl Frederick Blattner and Katherine Moritz Blattner. She grew up in Bound Brook, New Jersey where she met her husband, George. They raised their children in New Jersey and lived there until moving to St. James in 2012.

Over the years Carolyn had many roles, including college student, childcare worker, gardener, bowler, artist, horseback rider, party planner, business owner, librarian, and loving wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.

Her greatest role in life, however, was being a loving and caring mother. She had five children of her own, but was often referred to as “Mom” or “Momma Flynn” by many of her children’s friends. With her love of plants, birds and nature, she taught her children respect and compassion for others and all living things.

She is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, George Carl Flynn; sons, Scott Flynn of Horseheads, New York, Gregg Flynn of Long Valley, New Jersey, and Todd Flynn of Montclair, New Jersey; daughters Kristen Powers of Richmond, Virginia and Kelly Flynn of Central, South Carolina; sisters Joan Shaw of Atkinson, New Hampshire and Ann Huggler of Berwyn, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Nicole, Danielle, Gabby, Cooper, Graeme, Shea, Johanna, Liam, Kaelan, Cyrus, and Devon; and great- grandchild, Bentley.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on June 22 at Peacock, Newman & White Funeral Services, 1411 North Howe Street, Southport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
